Policing Suffolk Roads

Keeping our roads safe for all road users (including cyclists and pedestrians) and the traffic free flowing is fundamental to the county’s wellbeing. There are major international routes in the county servicing the major ports of Lowestoft, Ipswich and Felixstowe. The fatal four are major reasons for causing collisions, accidents, injuries and delays.

•    Taking the pressure off roads policing unit by having piloting a new two-year shared funding Highways England Traffic Unit patrolling the A12, A11 and A14.

•    Ensuring the ‘Safetycam” partnership continues its work on speeding enforcement and improving road safety. Last year around forty thousand speeding offences were recorded across the county and the levels of killed and serious injuries increased by around twenty percent.

•    The crackdown on drink and drug driving must continue.

•    The new Commercial Vehicle Unit is producing excellent results and can be expanded depending on demand as necessary.

•    The strength of our roads policing must be maintained at current levels as a minimum as the county’s population continues to grow.
